Use side menu or top bar menu to access configure backup page.

Configure backup page: In this example, we will configure backup on website running FTP protocol, which is the most widely used for CPanel installations.

Step 1 - Enter Protocol, hostname and port

In configure backup page step 1, do the following:-
  • chevron_rightFTP Protocol: Most vendors offer FTPS, which is the default backup protocol. If your vendor supports SSH, then choose SFTP from dropdown.
  • chevron_rightFTP Hostname: Enter your FTP server hostname
  • chevron_rightFTP port: If you are using non standard ssh port, then mention port number here. Default ports for FTP/FTPS is 21, and for SFTP is 22.
  • chevron_rightClick on Next button to move to next step
Step 2 - Enter username and password with docroot

In configure backup page step 2, do the following:-
  • chevron_rightFTP Web directory: Most CPanel installation uses /public_html as document root, where web files are stored. You can choose between /html, /www and /public_html
  • chevron_rightFTP Login User name: Enter your FTP username used for login
  • chevron_rightFTP Login Password: Enter your FTP password
  • chevron_rightClick on Verify FTP Details button to confirm if the credentials are working successfully
  • chevron_rightClick on Next button to move to next step
If you are unable to verify your login credentials, then troubleshooting by doing the following:-
  • chevron_rightCheck if username and password is correctly entered.
  • chevron_rightCheck if you have entered the right hostname in step 1. Try using the IP address, instead of FTP server hostname.
  • chevron_rightCheck if you have entered the right FTP protocol. Note: SFTP means SSH.
  • chevron_rightCheck if your hosting provider is running FTP service on a different port
  • chevron_rightCheck if your service provider is firewalling connections or blocked the IP address of storage node. In case it is blocked, request provider to whitelist the IP address. To get IP address of the storage node check Get Storage node IP
  • chevron_rightIf nothing works, then contact support
Step 3 - Submit

We will simply submit empty values in the form for now. We will discuss about excluding files and directories separately. We will also show how to configure MysqlOverPhpS(for backing up MySQL databases) separately.
Schedule Backup

Backup can be scheduled by going to Backup History page and clicking on Schedule Backup now button. The backup job is queued with higher priority, and will automatically backup web files and database.

Run Backup

Find my storage IP

Storage IP address could be needed to add remote mysql host, for Direct MySQL backup. Each site could be provisioned on separate host. Login to BountySite control panel and choose site from the dropdown, for which we need to find the provisioned storage IP. Go to DB Backup(Side menu > Manage site and bacup > DB Backup). IP address can be found as shown below highlighted in box.

Configure Database

If your website is running Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal, you dont need to configure database credentials. You can confirm by visiting configure database backup and confirm.

Configure database backup

Confirm DB auto configuration

BountySite supports three modes of MySQL backup as shown below with highest priority on top:-

  • chevron_rightMySQL over PHPS: (Highest preference) : MySQL backup is performed securely over HTTPS using a PHP script which needs to be uploaded by you in a folder only known to you. Note: The backup does not work with HTTP.
  • chevron_rightMySQL over SSH Tunnel: (Lower preference) This mode is automatically chosen, when web backup is configured with SFTP(SSH) protocol, and MySQL over PHPS url is not mentioned.
  • chevron_rightDirect MySQL: (Least preference) : If MySQL over php is empty and web backup protocol is FTP/FTPS, direct mysql backup is configured. Check details here for more.

The mode of database backup can always be changed and validated before saving the config.

Add Database

A new database can be added by doing the following:-
  • chevron_rightMySQL Hostname: This is by default set to the FTP hostname. In case of backing up mulitple databases, there can be only one MySQL Hostname. Do not change Mysql hostname when adding another database, as it will break previous database backup.
  • chevron_rightDatabase Name: Enter the name of the database to be backed up
  • chevron_rightMysql login user name: Enter Mysql user name
  • chevron_rightMysql user password: Enter Mysql password
  • chevron_rightMysql over PHPS: If you want to configure MySQL over PHPS, then click on Download button to download PHP script. Upload the script into your hosting server, under a newly created directory under document root(web files). Enter the URI of the PHP script. For example, if the newly created directory is newlycreatedfolderforbkp and the php script name is 98A8F1B.php, then the URI is /newlycreatedfolderforbkp/98A8F1B.php
  • chevron_rightClick on Verify DB Details button. Depending upon on your configuration, it will confirm if the credentials entered will successfully backup your database.
Direct MySQL Backup

There are few things needed to configure MySQL Direct Backup.
  • adjustMySQL Instance listening on public interface: Check with your hosting provider if MySQL service is listening on public IP. If the case, request your hosting provider to open firewall with your storage node IP Address. The IP address can be fetched from Add Database Backup page, provided in text "Add x.x.x.x to the remote host for your MySQL Database"
  • adjustMySQL Remote Host: You need to tell your MySQL server to accept the mysql credentials from the storage node IP.
Remote MySQL Host for CPanel: Login to your CPanel account and under Databases section click on Remote MySQL
